Congratulation on Your New Crown/Bridge
Why? Because you now have the strongest restoration available in dentistry today. It supports your tooth by surrounding it with gold, silver palladium alloy or ceramic for strength and porcelain for beauty. We use only the most hypoallergenic metals and the most life-like porcelain. The crown should mimic what Mother Nature gave you beautifully.
It may be common to experience some sensitivity to hot and cold after the cementation/bonding of the crown. This is usually due to the treatment process and is only temporary. If the restoration fells like it’s too high to the bite, please let us know immediately so we can adjust it. It can become very sore if not adjusted. Also, if you have a problem with gum line tenderness, rinse with warm salt water (1 tsp. of salt to 8 ounces of water) 3-5 times a day. This will help clean the area and take the tenderness away. The gingival can take a week or so to fully adjust to the new crown. If you have any problems, please don’t hesitate to call the office.
We normally place the crown or bridge first with temporary cement. This way there is a trial period for you to be sure it is perfect. When it is temporarily cemented you can chew hard things and soft things but avoid sticky foods like caramel or chewing gum. When flossing be careful not to pull the floss up as it can loosen the temporarily cemented crown.
Just like anything else you plan to keep a long time, you need to take care of your teeth and gums. Good brushing, flossing and regular maintenance are a must! Usually, cleanings are every 3-6 months depending on your periodontal status. If you have trouble cleaning around the new crown or bridge please ask us to demonstrate the different products available to help you clean better.
Enjoy your beautiful crown or bridge. In no time you’ll forget that you even have a restoration in your tooth. In the meantime, feel secure that you have “state of the art” dentistry in your mouth. Thanks for having confidence in us so that we could provide you with Exceptional Dentistry.
